ANDY OUYANG
Violin
Born into a musical family, Andy Ouyang began studying the violin at the age of ten under the guidance of his mother, Professor Ming-Li Wu. He later studied with his father Huigang Ouyang, as well as Professors Wen-Hsien Chang and Simin Ganatra, and has received masterclass instruction from renowned artists such as Anne-Sophie Mutter, James Ehnes, and Anne Akiko Meyers.
Ouyang received his early musical education in Taiwan, attending the music programs at Kuang Jen High School and New Taipei Senior High School. He is currently pursuing his doctoral studies at Boston University.
He has twice attended the Eastern Music Festival in the United States, where he served as concertmaster of the festival symphony orchestra. In 2016, he performed Saint-Saëns’ Violin Concerto No. 3 with conductor Chia-Hung Liao and the New Taipei Senior High School Orchestra. In August 2018, he gave his first solo recital at the NTU Center for the Arts (Yasong Hall) in Taipei. The following summer, he participated in the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival in the U.S., where his solo and chamber performances received high praise.
In August 2019, Ouyang represented Taiwan as the only Taiwanese competitor in the Tibor Varga International Violin Competition in Sion, Switzerland.
